The Jewish Experience partnered with the Allied Jewish Federation and Rose Medical Center to present Denver’s First Annual Conference on Jewish Medical Ethics. The keynote speaker was Israel Prize Laureate Prof. Abraham Stienberg, M.D., who spoke on the ethical considerations of stem cell research. In addition, Curt R. Freed, M.D., Professor of Medicine and Pharmacology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, spoke on the recent developments in stem cell research. A sold-out crowd of nearly 150 medical professionals examined the ethical dilemmas of stem cell research and use, learned how to identify the underlying principals in halacha (Jewish law) and secular ethics as they relate to stem cell use, and gained a better understanding of the current political issues surrounding stem cell use. Attendees qualified to receive CME (Continuing Medical Education) credits.
“The Medical Ethics Conference was terrific because it allowed so many Jewish doctors from across the spectrum of Jewish affiliations to come together and be addressed by a world renowned leader in medical ethics regarding a controversial new medical technology,” commented Rabbi Leban, Outreach Director of The Jewish Experience. “It was amazing to see how the latest technological innovations are understood within the context of over three millennia of Torah Law. The conference was fascinating, informative, and powerful.”
