Breakfast with Champions

Superbowl Champ Talks Football, Fulfillment and Faith

Former NFL offensive lineman and member of the 1992 Dallas Cowboy Superbowl Champs Alan Veingrad came to Denver, on Novemeber 4th, for Breakfast with Champions, presented by The Jewish Experience and BBYO.

Veingrad addressed how he, as the only Jew on his team, vigorously maintained his Jewish identity and pride in the wake of both “good-natured ribbing” and overt proselytizing.  In a 1995 article in the New York Times, Alan spoke of the importance of Judaism in his life, "It's hard being a professional football player. It's harder still being a Jewish football player.”  However, despite difficulties, Veingrad managed to maintain “Judaism's strong emphasis on family and celebration, passed down” to he and his brother by their parents.  Additionally, Veingrad discussed his involvement in the Fort Lauderdale-area Jewish community.

The event started with breakfast and tailgating with Veingrad at 9:00 a.m., and after his talk everyone stuck around to watch the Broncos game at 11 a.m.-3 p.m. in the exclusive Club Room of Invesco Field.

The Jewish Experience is a dynamic outreach group building Jewish community in Denver with exciting social and educational programs, based in the JCC. We cater to all Jews, regardless of background or affiliation, offering sophisticated and enjoyable learning opportunities that are open to all.
